At that time, people holding laptops or mobile phones in every corner of Qingdao will be able to quickly access the Internet to inquire information, seek medical treatment or receive education; and enterprises will also be able to run online anytime and anywhere The wireless city, known as the "fifth public utility", will be the foundation for the development of information service industry in our city.

Local coverage in urban areas

"At present, WLAN has covered some urban areas," said a person from the Municipal Bureau of information industry. For example, star hotels, tourist attractions, railway stations, airports and other transportation hubs along the coast, not to mention the Olympic Sailing venues, the coverage of WLAN will be expanded during this year's Olympic games. Using laptops or PDAs equipped with WLAN cards, citizens can surf the Internet at any time, search for travel information, stock market information and conduct online office work.

At present, WLAN only realizes local coverage, so in other areas, it has to rely on the wireless network of telecom operators. It is reported that at present, both Qingdao mobile and Qingdao Unicom have launched wireless Internet services. One is to connect mobile phones with laptops through data transmission lines and infrared rays, and the other is to insert wireless network cards into laptops to access the Internet. It is reported that the above three ways complement each other and jointly constitute the pattern of wireless Internet in our city at the present stage.

Broadband network covers the whole city

Corresponding to the construction of wireless city, Qingdao has also accelerated the construction of wired broadband network. According to a person from the broadband Department of Qingdao Netcom, at present, the company is implementing the "optical (fiber) into copper (back) project". After the implementation of optical fiber into the home of Qingdao Central International Plaza in 2007, 10000 users are using the service. According to the plan, Qingdao Netcom will invest 150 million yuan to promote the "optical (fiber) into copper (line) back project", and will complete the optical broadband access task of 500000 users within three years.

"After using optical fiber broadband access, users will be able to realize digital voice, high-speed Internet access, and watch digital video entertainment online," Qingdao Netcom said. They will work with real estate developers to promote the smooth implementation of the project.
